WHAT IS YOUR DESIGN PROCESS?
My approach to the process of working with a client depends on the client’s needs and the specifics of the projects that need doing. Whether it is working on a print, web or social media project, the process usually entails research and strategy, design and production. I want my clients to have an understanding of what goes into their project and how it comes to life. Please take the time to become familiar with the process that I follow here.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE DEADLINES AND SCHEDULING?
A crucial part of design work is planning for the time needed to complete your project. Depending on the details of the project and design needs, the timeline will vary. I work with my clients to prioritize and develop an appropriate schedule to complete the projects at hand. Additionally, how the work will be output will influence the timelines for completion. I am not a proponent of grind-culture, however, I do handle the occasional rush turnaround. I like to impress upon my clients that lead time is an important part of the equation. Design is not “magic.” Design entails thought, deliberation and skill in addition to an artist’s creative prowess — haste is not the most cost-effective way to invest in design.
HOW MUCH DO YOUR DESIGN SERVICES COST?
There is no one-fits-all cost for design. Creating a logo for a new business requires a different strategy, skill-set and timeframe as opposed to creating an admissions brochure for a school. As in any other service-based business, creating a quotation to determine the cost of your project entails knowing the parameters, goals and deliverables expected. Some things that determine the cost of your project are the materials needed, how many collaborators will be involved, final output format, your timeline and a budget. Providing as much of that information when you reach out, as well as, a bit about your company and what goals you are looking to meet helps me to better serve you.
WHAT INFO DO YOU NEED FROM THE CLIENT?
Design is collaborative. At the start of working together I will be able to guide you in what you will need to provide to begin the process based on the nature of your project. Together, we will determine the project “what” and “why,” goals, target audience and content development. In addition, we will determine if there are internal deadlines and how that coincides with your project’s deadlines and the expected final deliverables.
WHAT IF I AM CONCERNED ABOUT WORKING REMOTELY?
Working remotely for me was not pandemic induced. I have built many successful relationships with clients and vendors working remotely since 2003. I value communication and consistency and assure you that distance does not dictate the ability to foster productive work relationships and create good design work. Phone or video meetings are welcome and location depending, in-person meetings can be arranged.
CAN YOU WORK FROM A PREVIOUS DESIGNER’S FILES?
No. Contrary to popular belief this does not save you money, it usually costs you more. While I may pick up where another designer has left off, in order to maintain the integrity and quality of my work technically and creatively — it is just that — my work.
